Deficit Display

Canadian politicians talk a lot about the “deficit” and the conservatives especially talk about being the party of fiscal responsibility so I wanted to see if it makes sense historically.

This is the result:

The blue dots are for a conservative party budget and the red dots are for the liberal party budgets.

It seems like the conservatives tend to keep things as they are and the liberals drive more change.

Spending Per Capita edit

This one was mostly what I expected, flat since around 1980.

What was unexpected was the massive jump in 2020 and 2021. Covid slowed immigration significantly and increased spending per capita sharply.

Maybe the recent immigration increase is to make up for this gap so the gov can meet their targets?
